G501SP Flight Deck Optional Upgrades
Though the G501SP puts a wealth of easy-to-comprehend flight-critical data at your fingertips on its three large-format, high-resolution displays, even greater capabilities are available. The optional upgrades described here can add the latest in virtual imaging and situational awareness to your flightdeck, increasing your safety and that of your fellow travelers.
Look to the Future. In Virtual 3-D
For added visual orientation, optional Garmin SVT™ synthetic vision technology is available for the G501SP suite. Using sophisticated graphics modeling, the SVT system recreates a 3-D "virtual reality" database landscape on the pilot and copilot PFDs. Thus, Garmin SVT enables you to clearly visualize nearby flight and enroute navigation features – even in solid IFR or nighttime VFR conditions.
Garmin SVT shows fixed terrain and obstacles, and also works with TCAS/TAS/TIS traffic technologies to depict targets in 3-D perspective, so you can visually gauge how high and how close they are. Plus, the familiar color- and shape-cued TCAS symbology grows larger as it gets nearer – making traffic conflicts easier to see and identify.
When darkness, fog, rain, haze or solid IFR conditions keep you from seeing clearly out the windshield, Garmin’s SVT virtual flight reference is like "taking the blinders off." Using sophisticated graphics modeling, SVT recreates a visual topographic landscape from the G1000 system’s terrain-alerting database. The resulting virtual reality display offers pilots a supplemental 3-D depiction of ground and water features, airports, obstacles and traffic – all shown in relative proximity to the aircraft. So situational orientation is far easier and less stressful.
Add Weather, Radio and Traffic
With an optional subscription to XM WX Satellite Weather™ and the addition of the GDL 69 or 69A data link receiver, you’ll have access to up-to-the-minute, high resolution weather for the U.S., right in the cockpit. Weather information includes NEXRAD, METARs, TAFs, Lightning and more and can be laid directly over Jeppesen and topographic map databases. Add a Garmin Mode S transponder, and the G501SP flight deck will also display Traffic Information Services (TIS) alerts that identify surrounding air traffic. For the best in "scan-your-own" weather analysis, the system can be interfaced with the Garmin MFD.
