David Welch promoted to Vice President of SkyWay Aero

UVALDE, TX – March 21, 2013 – We are very pleased to announce the promotion of David Welch to the Vice President of Sales for SkyWay Aero, Inc. David has more than 25 years of aviation sales experience and, during his career at SkyWay Aero, he has worked on a variety of highly successful aircraft sales and business development projects. Aircraft sales have always been an important component of the SkyWay Group and David’s in-depth experience and industry contacts have been a proven asset to the organization’s success.

David joined the company in January of 2009.  He began his career as an aviation researcher for Gantt Aviation and swiftly progressed into an Aircraft Sales Manager position with West Air. After a number of years as Regional Sales Manager for Texas Piper, Inc., he launched Integrity Aero LLC in 2000, which was sold in the summer of 2008.  A graduate of Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene, TX, Welch holds current commercial, instrument and multi-engine ratings.

Other experiences included launching an aircraft sales division for an aero-medical firm, developing an aircraft research department for an aircraft sales and service company and creating a new twin-engine aircraft market by buying and upgrading a specific used aircraft, establishing a new worldwide market in the process.

In his new role, David will be responsible for building upon the established success of SkyWay Aero and leveraging its influence upon Sierra Industries and other sister companies within the SkyWay Group through sales and leasing of aircraft and engines.

50th Sierra FJ44 Stallion Delivered

Citation 501SP owner/pilot Dr. Howard Tobin (left) accepts commemorative “Stallion #50” plaque and photo from Paul Wood, Sierra’s Director of Sales & Customer Support
UVALDE, TX – January 21, 2013 – The latest Cessna Citation to receive Sierra’s state-of-the-art FJ44 re-engining modification was recently delivered from Sierra’s South Texas modification facilities. Marking a significant milestone in their series of Citation engine upgrades, the newly delivered aircraft is the 50th Citation to receive the Williams International FJ44-2A engine retrofit. Including their previous Eagle 400 modifications and FJ44-3A upgrades for Citation II and SII models, Sierra has now performed engine retrofits to more than 70 Citation aircraft.

Stallion #50 owner Dr. Howard Tobin is delighted with his newly upgraded Citation. Dr. Tobin is a Director of the Citation Jet Pilots Association and, as moderator of the Legacy Aircraft Discussion Forum, has shared his re-engining experience in “real time” with the members of the organization. Upon flying his newly upgraded Stallion, he posted these comments:
“All I can say is WOW! ...this was one of the most exciting steps for me in my flying career. So far, all I can say is “why did I wait so long?”
At 41,000’, it sure was nice to be looking at 190 knots indicated (mach .65), compared to the old 153 (mach .58) and the climb was probably the biggest boost. Up to 41,000 feet with full fuel, 4 persons and quite a bit of baggage in about 30 minutes, still climbing 500 feet per minute. How I remember how we used to struggle above 35,000.
While the conversion is great, I guess what I love the best is that I still have my faithful 41GT.”

Sierra’s FJ44-2A re-engining programs for Cessna Citation 500 and 501SP models include the Stallion and the Eagle II, which adds their classic Eagle wing/fuel tank upgrade to the engine retrofit. Citation II and SII owners can choose FJ44-3A based Super II and Super SII modifications. All of these modifications utilize state-of-the-art Williams International fanjet engines to provide dramatic improvements in power, efficiency and reliability.

Sierra Opens New Maintenance Facility at KSAT - San Antonio, TX

SAN ANTONIO, TX – December 7, 2012 – With the announced closing of the Hawker-Beechcraft factory service center in San Antonio, longtime South Texas aircraft center Sierra Industries, Ltd. is poised to support HBC customers across the south central United States. In November 2012, Sierra added a new maintenance facility at San Antonio International Airport (KSAT). For regional HBC aircraft owners, the proximity of an experienced maintenance and upgrade shop like Sierra provides an attractive, affordable alternative to the few remaining HBC factory service centers.

Long known in aviation circles for their innovative engine, airframe and avionics modifications for Cessna Citation aircraft, Sierra has offered world-class aircraft inspection and maintenance services for three decades. Sierra also enjoys substantial experience in maintenance and modifications for Hawker 400, 800 and King Air models. Recently, Hawker Beechcraft Corporation selected Sierra to spearhead the development and installation of their XPR engine, avionics and winglet retrofit programs for the Hawker 400 and 800 business jet series.

Sierra CEO Mark Huffstutler states, “Since our earliest days as a company, we have dedicated ourselves to taking the best legacy aircraft and making them better – offering higher performance, efficiency and utility. Hawker Beechcraft trusts us to handle their new XPR modification programs – the only time they’ve utilized an outside firm for such work – and we believe that gives HBC aircraft owners the confidence to rely on Sierra for their inspection and maintenance needs.”
