Sierra Industries completes 4th hangar addition at Garner Field Airport, Uvalde

After only a few months of work, Sierra hangar #4 was completed in early June and is already at work, housing multiple aircraft undergoing maintenance and modifications. Since ground breaking at the end of January, the large addition has been erected in record time. The new hangar is both wider and taller than any of Sierra’s three previous hangars, allowing ample room for maintenance, repairs and upgrades to a wider variety of aircraft, including mid-sized Citation X, Hawker 400 and 800, and Falcon 50 model business jets.

The Hangar 4 project spearheads a variety of significant upgrades to the remainder of Sierra’s facilities. These include new energy-efficient lighting and air conditioning, improved insulation and even reflective roof paint to help minimize the effects of Texas’ summer sunshine on utility expenses. Also included in the new hangar expansion is a substantial increase in office space.

SkyWay Group and Sierra CEO Mark Huffstutler remarks, "Despite the challenging economic environment in recent years, we invested heavily in acquiring institutional business, resulting in the award of several long-term government and private industry contracts that provide a welcome base of stability as well as new growth opportunities for our business and for the Uvalde economy. This growth in business created a need for additional facilities as well as a demand for increased employment. We have already grown our Uvalde-based workforce by over 20% this year to meet our rapidly expanding business needs and expect expansion to continue into 2012.

The new hangar provides much-needed space to accommodate both long-term contract obligations as well as rapidly increasing demand for business jet maintenance and performance upgrades. This growing workload provides stable, high-wage jobs for the local economy and is projected to bring Sierra’s work force to a total of over 100 skilled aerospace jobs during 2011.
